Do I Need Insulation?
Ask yourself these questions and if you answer yes to more than one, you probably need to add insulation to your home.
- Do you have ice dams, icicles or areas of your roof that the snow melts quicker than others?
- Are your energy bills excessively high?
- Does your furnace seem to run too much in the winter?
- Does your air conditioner run too much in the summer?
- Do you have problems with the condition of your roof such as curling shingles?
- Does the snow on your roof seem to melt off quicker than other homes in the area?
Heating and cooling account for 50 to 70% of the energy used in the average American home. Inadequate insulation and air leakage are leading causes of energy waste in most homes. Insulation:

- makes walls, ceilings, and floors warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
The amount of energy you conserve will depend on several factors: your local climate; the size, shape, and construction of your house; the living habits of your family; the type and efficiency of the heating and cooling systems; and the fuel you use.
